January 2016!

Can you believe we are already diving head first into this new year?! We are really excited to be working in conjunction with Kara Dodds and Associates, Inc. this month. They will be coming out to do speech and language screenings on all of our students at the center!

In 2006 Kara Dodds, M.S., CCC-SLP (speech pathologist) created a speech and language screening 3 phase protocol providing free trainings to teachers and free screenings to preschool and school-aged children funded by a grant from the Autism Tree Project Foundation (ATPF).

The goal of this program is to identify preschoolers with language or motor delays so that families can be facilitated in obtaining diagnosis and the necessary intervention for their children as early as possible. This screening is unique as it includes trainings to teachers, directors as well as screenings and a therapy program for each campus. There is no cost to families or preschools for any of these services.

The staff will all do their training on Wednesday, January 13th. We will then hand out permission slips to all parents who would like their child to participate. Then Kara and one of her associates will come out and do the screenings the following week on all students who signed the permission slip. Just a reminder, this is not a test. There is no pass/ fail. One of the most important part of our jobs working in this field is Early Intervention. We want all of our students to be successful in all aspects of their development. With these screenings, we will be able to see which students are doing fine, and which ones need a little extra help to being on their way to successful development.
